The Grounds
Pennyhill Park is surrounded by over
123 acres of stunning Surrey woodland, parkland, gardens and
terraces. It has it’s own world class rugby and football
pitch, a 9-hole golf course, great jogging tracks and walking
trails that take you around the perimeter of the grounds - blissful
for work, play or to simply ‘take a moment’ in!
A variety of well tended flower beds, mature trees (including
one 600 year old Cedar tree), topiary, decorative ponds, waterfall
and open space are expertly tendered by our Estate Manager,
Chris Whiting, who has worked at Pennyhill for 7
years.
"We have five full time groundsmen and
gardeners in the team who look after the grounds from dawn till
dusk mowing, planting, pruning and tending.
‘We often discover something new in and about the
grounds’ he continues ‘and our latest find is the most stunning
wild orchids growing in a copse beside the lake. Obviously all wild
flowers need to be protected, however these are especially
important as they are so rare, but our guests love seeing
them."
Slightly beyond the call of duty, they all find themselves being
‘protective parents’ as well, because of the wildlife that is
attracted to Pennyhill Park.
Neil, who works alongside Chris, explains that a flock of
Canadian geese come each year to raise their young by the lake.
This is in addition to the new visitors - beautiful red deer and
their three babies that roam in the grounds plus two badger sets,
and they all need a watchful eye!
